Due to this years harsh winter, a major amount of ice melt has been tracked into homes and commercial buildings.
For years it was simple. Put rock salt on snow and ice for safety. Then chemical companies came out with products that claimed to work well with different ingredients. Many of these ingredients are of an oily nature, manufactured through a chemical process.
We as carpet cleaners are expected to remove these ugly salt stains and have always used acid rinses such as Acetic Acid. It is just not that effective anymore due to the new Ice Melt products.
Ice Melt Removal Procedure for Carpets:
- Vacuum (HEPA) or Pile Lift
- Spray KK Salt Reducer onto carpet and give it some time to dwell.
- Hot steam clean with a carpet cleaning extraction machine.
- Pad clean with rotary machine (preferably cotton pad)
- If need be, pad again and or vacuum the next day.
This method can be a lot of work but the other options give poor results. Good Luck!
